MCP servers — frequently asked questions

What is an MCP server?
An MCP (Model Context Protocol) server exposes tools, data and actions to an AI client such as Cursor, Claude Desktop or Windsurf, so the assistant can query your database, read files, browse the web or call APIs directly.
How do I install an MCP server?
Copy the JSON config from any card on this page and paste it into your client's config file — mcp.json for Cursor, claude_desktop_config.json for Claude Desktop, or mcp_config.json for Windsurf — then restart the client.
Are these MCP servers free?
Most listed MCP servers are open source and free to run locally. Some connect to paid third-party APIs, which may require your own API key and plan.
Which clients support MCP?
Cursor, Claude Desktop and Windsurf are the most widely used MCP clients today. Use the client filter above to see only the servers verified for your setup.
How do I submit an MCP server?
Use the submit form at zoipi.com/submit?type=mcp. Include the repository URL, package name and supported clients, and the entry is reviewed before publication.
